Our Mission

WELCOME HOME is a volunteer service and funding organization committed to raising awareness and resources for New Americans who have been displaced by war, famine, or persecution and now legally reside in San Diego.

We believe by investing in education and training we can help individuals build successful careers that will provide lifelong and generational impact for their families and the whole community. Through our fund at San Diego Jewish Community Foundation, we provide targeted grants to nonprofit organizations who share our vision.

Our Voice

"No one becomes a refugee by choice, but the rest of us have a choice about how we can help.”

— Filipo Grande, UN High Commissioner for Refugees

“I lived most of my life in refugee camps. I lost my mother during that time. She always told me to work hard. Now, I am the first in my family to go to college. I never gave up and I hear her voice pushing me all the time.”

— Crawford Community Connection Student

Our

Commitment

To assist New Americans on their journey toward self-sufficiency.

We have the opportunity to help make San Diego a welcoming community. To those who have lost everything, one act of kindness can make the difference.

Our Inspiration

In the words of HIAS President and CEO Mark Hatfield, “America has always been at its greatest when we have welcomed refugees to our shores and at its weakest when we have shut our doors out of fear.”

NO ONE ASKS TO BE A REFUGEE.
